Armenian Soumak Horse Cover — 1927


A striking Armenian horse cover woven in the Soumak technique, featuring a bold composition of a serrated “gedirge” pattern in rich red and blue, alongside intricate tribal motifs, stylised animals and colourful geometric ornamentation. The dark lower field provides a dramatic contrast to the vivid colours and finely detailed designs. 


Dated 1927, this distinctive piece is documented in Karl Claus’s Schmuckpferdedecken (2000), plate 17.
