Aydin Antique Kilim
267 x 143 cm (8' 9" x 4' 8")
Turkey, second half 19th century (1850年頃)
This antique Aydin kilim features a beautifully ordered field of vertical lozenge medallions and stylised motifs, including ram’s horns and small protective symbols, expressing themes of strength, protection, and harmony.
The composition is defined by three main vertical bands, creating a clear sense of rhythm and balance. A soft ivory ground is enlivened by rich tones of indigo, turquoise, madder red, and warm terracotta, with subtle natural dye variations adding depth and character.
Woven in western Anatolia in the latter half of the 19th century, using hand-spun wool and natural dyes, this type of kilim is no longer produced and is increasingly rare.
Condition: Very good, with some small repairs. Sound structure and well-preserved colours.
