Antique Bakhtiari Tree Rug
Persia ca.1900
Size: 200cm x 147cm
Pile: Wool, Warp/Weft:cotton
This antique Bakhtiari Tree Rug, woven in Persia around 1900, features a beautifully balanced tree-of-life composition rising symmetrically from a stylized garden base. Finely drawn trees filled with blossoms and foliage are set against a soft ivory field, giving the design clarity and elegance.
A rich rose-red border, decorated with flowing vine and floral motifs, frames the central scene and creates a striking contrast. The harmonious palette of natural browns, greens, blues, and soft pinks has mellowed gracefully with age, adding warmth and depth to the rug’s appearance.
Handwoven in wool on cotton, this piece shows honest age and character, with the top edge slightly shortened, consistent with its history and use. Measuring approximately 200 × 147 cm, it is a highly decorative and evocative example of Bakhtiari weaving, well suited as both a statement interior piece and a collectible Persian antique.
